The main nuisance in Utah is extreme water hardness from calcium and manganese. This causes staining, scum, and scaling that destroys appliances, damages skin and hair, and makes water heat less efficiently.

Most coliform bacteria do not cause disease. However, some strains of E. coli, particularly the strain 0157:H7, can cause serious illness. Some waterborne pathogenic diseases include typhoid fever, viral and bacterial gastroenteritis, and hepatitis A. The presence of fecal contamination is an indicator that a potential health risk exists for individuals exposed to this water.

Sulfur makes your water smell like rotten eggs and produces a bacteria slime that helps other bacteria grow, such as iron bacteria. The slime can clog wells and plumbing.
